Bind doesn't respond to XP nslookup?

If your local subnet is 192.168.0.x, you should have a reverse zone for 
192.168.0/24, not 192.168.1/24.

This timeout could be when nslookup is trying to do a reverse lookup of 
the nameserver's address.  Since you have the wrong reverse domain, that 
could be the problem.
