Why would I want to allow Bind to allow recursive queries in my situation?

After some more digging we found out the outfit had indeed registered the above
domain name along with evergreeneco.ca. But hadn't told us about the
evergreeneco.com. And the registrar, of course, had our DNS server names setup.

We've set it up in BIND and no more log entries.

So the problems were

1) I had recursion set to yes
2) The .com domain name wasn't in our BIND setup.
