Sporadic resolution problems

Hi list,

I'm having fun and games trying to track down a problem with external name
resolution to my name server. A number of clients (predominately in the USA)
can't resolve any zones on my name server - rather ominously including the mail
servers of ISC and Google. The ISC mail server provides a good example. This
snippet is taken from /var/log/maillog whilst attempting to post this very
question:

Jun 24 11:43:05 alyeska sendmail[29944]: i5O9gZln029698:
to=<bind9-users at isc.org>, delay=01:00:30, xdelay=00:06:46, mailer=esmtp,
pri=120543, relay=mx-1.isc.org. [204.152.184.167], dsn=4.2.0, stat=Deferred:
450 <matth at room41.net>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found

The name server in question is ns[12].room41.com. dnsreport.com
(http://dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=room41.net) shows absolutely
nothing to be concerned about. It appears that those who can not resolve a
single zone can not resolve *any* zones served from there, but those who can
don't have any problems with any other zone. One client who I have been working
closely with on this issue has babysfirstsite.org served from there. Their ISP
is comcast, but their configuration does not allow me to query that name server
directly. From what I've been able to discern, this issue isn't limited to just
comcast clients, otherwise I'd land the blame wholly and squarely on their
shoulders.

ns1 is running 9.1.3 (shortly to be upgraded to 9.3, once this mess has been
sorted out), and ns2 is running BIND 9.3.0beta4.

Any help or insights would be very greatly appreciated.

Regards,

M Hoskison
