to +norec or not to +norec

I have read the "dig" man page and searched(possibly incorrectly) the
archives.  But I cannot find an answer to my silly question.  What is
the purpose of using the "+norec" on dig queries?  I have tried a few
queries with and without +norec and seem to get the same results on
both.  I am using version 9.2.3 dig.
