Problem with Secondary systems with many zones

You may want to double check the notify situation.  The symptoms sound
identical to what happened to me during a "notify storm."  The system
spent several hours sending notifies before sending the SOA queries
went out.  The SOA in progress from rndc status  just kept climbing.
