Status of possible 8.4.1 patch for root-delegation-only?

I know that work on 9.2.x patches will always take priority, but I'm
wondering if there's any news on a version of the root-delegation-only
patch for v8.4.1. I could implement some of the bandaid patches to
kill the Verisign idiocy, but I'd rather wait for the Real Thing (tm).
