trouble with dns

host unreachable usually indicates a basic networking problem.

I'd start with can both machines ping each other.

Fouled up firewalling would seem the most likely culprit.

You might try showing output of "netstat -r", "ifconfig -a" and
your firewall rules to a Linux group (support your local lug).

Do you have networking issues between these boxes with any other
protocols?
