two dns servers, two domains

Sure, that would work. If you want the old addresses to work after you've moved to
the new hardware/network, however, then you'll have to figure out how to
accommodate both sets of addresses on the same DNS and mail servers. I know a
little bit about this: it's been more than 4 years since the merger, but we still
support @chrysler.com addresses.
