If you have a lab, you could do some simple tests to evaluate this
problem.  

1.  Build a name server.
2.  Use perl to generate a million or so RR (get creative and build them
in different zones if you like).
3.  Load it up and see what happens.

As for the load on resolution, you would probably need some type of
loading SW...
