resolving my own sub-domains

Hi all - 

It used to be that if I was the master for my zone (say company.com) and I
had delegated my sub-domains to others (say euro.company.com) AND I had a
forwarders statement, that my resolution process would not follow my
delegation info  - I had to slave that sub-domain.  Is this still true?  I
don't really want to slave from sub-domains in Africa just so I can resolve
one address - but I want a nice clean way to get this thing to resolve.
