On my W2k box (dns.exe build 5648) I did the following:

     C:>nslookup
     >server rhino221.anl.gov
     >ns.suse.cz
     Server: rhino221.anl.gov
     Address: 146.137.96.48

     Name: kerberos.suse.cz
     Address: 195.47.106.10
     Aliases: ns.suse.cz

     > exit

     C:>

I had no problems. But I was not doing exactly what the original
poster did.
