Pinging any non-existent domain hits me too

I wouldn't think so. Are you absolutely sure that there's no "domain" or
"search" directive in your /etc/resolv.conf?

By the way, what's that "ns.yournameservers.com" doing in your
/etc/resolv.conf? The "nameserver" directive only accepts IP addresses, not
names.
