Strange DNS lookup behavio

As your machines are W2k, I believe that you will have to ask MS why
their code is behaving as you observe.  This newsgroup has knowledge
of ISC BIND, but we have no knowledge as to the internals of the MS
W2k DNS Server, which is MS-proprietary code.
