Dodge,

1.  The command channel is the socket that rndc listens on to accept
control connections for named.  12.0.0.1 is the IP address and 953 is the
port.

2.  Double check your named.conf and rndc.conf files / configuration.  The
errors you are getting indicate that named cannot find the rndc key you
have specified (or was specified by default) in named.conf.  Find the key
and put it where named.conf is looking for it, or change where named.conf
is looking for it...
