I thought at least one Mr DNS left willingly for a more dynamic
organisation.

Something bad sometimes seems to happen when companies get too
big.

Anyway I hope you cure your AD infection, the advice here seems
to be keep a close on on what is happening in those delegated
domain, and make sure they stay consistent.
