strange message in query log

The backslash means that the "." was actually part of the label "UPL.EXE",
rather than being a separator between labels in the domain name.  You can
create entries like this in DB files by escaping them with '\' characters,
e.g.

UPL\.EXE IN NS ns1.dom2.org.
