No, that's not the problem.  named doesn't use it for anything.  You
need to look in the Application Event Log to see why it's dying.  The
usual reason is that it can't find named.conf which needs to be
in the dns/etc/ directory whereever you placed dns during the install.
It's not required to be under the system32 directory thoufh that's the
default.

You can also start named manually using the -f argument to run in in
the DOS window. The output will then go to the DOS Window.
