I think I did this by mistake 8.2 to 9.2, but it was all a blaze
of muddled versions at the time.

Install 9.2 on both ;)

The syntax for nsupdate changes between versions, life will be a
lot simpler if you just go with the latest version of the
software, as the syntax prior to 9.2 is horrid (IMHO).

Most people update DNS from DHCP server, excepting DDNS
providers for home users on the Internet, I think the DHCP docs
now have examples.
