If your domain is www.domain.com, wouldn't a subdomain of that have to be
something like sub.www.domain.com?  sub.domain.com is on the same level of
the DNS hierarchy as www.domain.com.  They're both subdomains of
domain.com, or you could say they're both hostnames in the domain.com
domain.
