This version of BIND is very old (and has known security
issues), I would strongly recommend BIND 9.2.1 (or later) for
supporting dynamic DNS, which it does better, with better error
messages(!) for this sort of issue.
Apart from setting up rndc, and being a bit stricter on zone
file formats, you should find it very familiar.
