Odd firewall and resolver issues

This vix.com server doesn't appear to offer recursion, which
makes me wonder if it is a genuine DNS query you are seeing, or
something else!

What precisely did you see? Have you inspected the packets?

I guess it is possible someone has mistypes your firewall IP
address (not given) into a nameserver some where, but so far I
see nothing of note to report.
