is bind needed at all?

Uh, Pete, I think mydomain.net is a hypothetical term.

Does anyone know the answer to this because I'd like to know, as well.

mydomain.net is in Los Gatos, California. Why would you want to try to
point mydomain.net, which you do not own, to your own box?
