The only relevant RFC is 2606 Reserved Top Level DNS Names.

However, if this is for a private network behind a firewall, so neither the
names nor addresses will be visible to the real Internet, you can do
whatever you want.  Internet standards are irrelevant if you're not
interacting directly with the Internet.
