Delagation and using Who Is server?

Does anyone here on the bind-users list, know any thing about setting up
a whois server?
We have now been put in trust of a 2nd level domain and I feel it's time to
set up a whois server for the delagation processes.  I've never set one up
and I now need some basic info. about getting an setting this service up.
Just basic info like what kind(s) of unix software are available/needed for
this purpose.
