Again:how to splitt??

Hi all.
I have posted a question about the splitted domain name space.
I got problem with the linux box.As i said i have no name server running

there only resolv.conf with search directive there and the ip of the
name server
The problem seem to be that when entering nslookup interactive mode it
does not
default to the name server i have listed at resolv.conf but uses the
localhostname as default name server
When i give `server thenamserver` i can resolve names and ips
 Let suppose something wrong with nslookup then what happens to the
resolver routines
that ftp telnet ping use? They all fail with hostname look up failure.
Why they don't user the name server listed at resolv.conf??
