problem with notify from bind 9 to bind 8

hi,

i have a master zone on computer A, which has bind 9.1.0 as a dns.
i have a slave of that zone on computer B, which has bind 8.2.3-REL-NOESW.

when i update my master zone on A, and upadte the serial i get this in
the logs when reloading:

zone inforealm.org/IN: sending notify to 192.168.0.1#53
zone inforealm.org/IN: notify to 192.168.0.1#53 failed: unexpected end of input

192.168.0.1 is B's ip.

but on B in the logs i see:

May  2 20:50:28 B named[3147]: rcvd NOTIFY(inforealm.org, IN, SOA) from [192.168.12.6].2550

192.168.12.6 is A's ip.

so it gets the NOTIFY, but then nothing happens.
when i try to see the changes on B, there is nothing there.
and the slave version is still the old version after i checked.

do you think it's a bind9 problem or a bind8 ?
of course it could be a configuration problem from one end or the other,
but any hints as to where to look ?
