How to Produce "Invalid RR Type" Messages?

I am seeing lots of messages such as these in our BIND syslog files:

     May 29 07:48:40 dns2.anl.gov named[140]: invalid RR type 'MX'
in authority section (name = 'nvl.army.mil')
       from [130.114.200.6].53
     May 29 07:48:40 dns2.anl.gov named[140]:
invalid RR type 'A' in authority section (name = 'nvl.army.mil')
       from [130.114.200.6].53

These are for various names

     _____.army.mil

I know that the problem is not mine; it is in the army.mil zones.
I have written to the DNS administrator at the Army a number of times
without any success. I am curious -- how does one (mis)configure a
zone to produce these error messages? I am thinking that maybe if I
tell the Army what they have done wrong, then they will correct the
problems. And am I correct in assuming that since these messages
appear on my DNS server that someone here at anl.gov is sending a
DNS query that results in the messages? Thanks.
