What happens is that the actual authoritative server
([a-m].root-servers.net) are giving a "NODATA" response. Name is valid,
though no data for it (there probably exist a x.205.in-addr.arpa). It
answers with a NOERROR + empty answer section. This is, following the
examples you give us, cached on a version 8 machine exactly how it gets it
and on the version 9 machine as a NXDOMAIN.
