Hi,

we are trying to setup a Windows 2000 domain without Dynamic
DNS (don't like the idea of client machines updating my DNS server).
This should be possible by adding a number of records to the
DNS server manualy:

_ldap._tcp.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 389 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 389 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.gc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 3268 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.99d79770-0929-426d-83a2-075ddf5d9c1b.domains._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 389 panter.sonytel.be.
gc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN A 10.34.0.17
2b4346a7-05a9-42a5-8a91-1555ec903797._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN CNAME panter.sonytel.be.
_kerberos._tcp.dc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 88 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 389 panter.sonytel.be.
_kerberos._tcp.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 88 panter.sonytel.be.
_gc._tcp.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 3268 panter.sonytel.be.
_kerberos._udp.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 88 panter.sonytel.be.
_kpasswd._tcp.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 464 panter.sonytel.be.
_kpasswd._udp.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 464 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 389 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.gc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 3268 panter.sonytel.be.
_kerberos._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.dc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 88 panter.sonytel.be.
_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.dc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 389 panter.sonytel.be.
_kerberos._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 88 panter.sonytel.be.
_gc._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.sonytel.be. IN SRV 0 100 3268 panter.sonytel.be.

Unfortunately when I try reloading the server I get teh following error:

Jul 11 10:20:05 mailhost named[105]: owner name "gc._msdcs.sonytel.be" IN (primary) is invalid - rejecting
Jul 11 10:20:05 mailhost named[105]: sonytel.be.zone:924: owner name error
Jul 11 10:20:05 mailhost named[105]: sonytel.be.zone:924: Database error near (A)
Jul 11 10:20:06 mailhost named[105]: master zone "sonytel.be" (IN) rejected due to errors (serial 699)

If I remove the "gc._msdcs.sonytel.be. IN A 10.34.0.17" line everything gets
accepted (but it still doesn't work since apparently this line is crucial for Windows).

Any ideas why the "owner name" is invalid?

Note: I'm running bind 8.2.3

thanks in advance,

Nico
