multiple named processes

Hello all,

I just installed BIND 9.0.1 on a Linux 6.0 , kernel 2.2.5-15 box, when i
start named it logs:

starting BIND 9.0.1
loading configuration from /etc/named.conf
no IPv6 interfaces found
listening on IPv4 interface lo0, 127.0.0.1#53   
listening on IPv4 interface eth0, xx.xx.xx.xx#53
running

nevertheless if i do

ps -ax | grep named

i see 5 named processes active, if i kill one, all 5 of them die.

Ideas of why I'm obtaining this weird situation ?
