Is it possible to have primary ns running 8.2.3 and slave ns running 4.9.3

Hello,
I am planning to upgrade our primary DNS server to
bind version 8.2.3 which is running at version 4.9.3.

My concern is if I upgrade the primary server that do
I also have to upgrade the secondary server at the
same time?  I would like to upgrade the secondary
server later (a week later).  

Any advice,. :)
