I taught myself both sendmail and DNS/BIND from scratch somewhere
in the 1993 timeframe (well, there was one chapter on each in Craig
Hunt's book "TCP/IP Network Administration", but I'm not sure that
counts ;-). Personally, I don't recommend this particular path.
Instead, I recommend that you buy a copy of _DNS & BIND_, which will
very shortly be available in the 4th edition (which covers BINDv9).
That said, I'm not convinced that you even need to go that far in
order to do what it seems that you want to do. If you can give us
more details, we may be able to help you figure out just exactly what
it is you need.
