OT Thawte certificates for wildcard domains

http://www.thawte.com/certs/server/keygen/mod_ssl.html describes 
configuring ssl on Apache with mod_ssl.  It says that you can get a 
wildcard certificate for something like *.virtualhost.com, but that 
this will not work with some browsers.  Does anyone know which ones 
it won't work on and whether it is a good or bad idea to get this?
