reverse lookups

You can have multiple PTR entries for an address, but applications only
look at the first one in the list, so it's a waste.

It shouldn't matter anyway. If reverse lookups are being used for
(weak) authentication, the remote server is going to do the reverse
lookup, get a name, and then do a forward lookup on the name to verify
that it matches the IP address. You don't need multiple PTR's for this
to work. You just need to make sure that whatever each PTR points to has
a matching A record.
