To expand slightly on that...

Since BIND 9 is a complete rewrite compared to BIND 8, you should really
consider them separate projects/packages. BIND 8.2.2-p5 is the current released
version of BIND 8, which has a (ahem!) mature codebase and a full set of
"basic" features. BIND 9.0.0 is the current released version of BIND 9, which
has a bunch of "advanced" features, e.g. better DNSSEC, EDNS0, IPV6,"views",
multi-threading/multi-processor support, etc., but it's still missing some of
the basic ones, e.g. per-domain forwarding, name-checking controls and query
logging.

Pick whichever version best meets your requirements.
