Slave problem

I have 2 bind 8 servers, one slave and one master. Both machines have 2
ip's, one for the machine name (machine1.domain.com) and one for the name
server (ns1.domain.com). My problem is that at first, I set the slave name
server up so that it thinks the ip of ns1.domain.com is the master. This
worked if the slave initiated the trasfer, but if the master initiated it,
it showed up as the ip of machine.domain.com and the slave rejected it.

I have changed the conf file on the slave to say that the ip of
machine.domain.com is the master, and not when a transfer tries to XFER, the
slave errors saying it cannot get the serial number.

I appreciate any help given.
