Redhat Linux 6.2 "init script"

Hello,

I am having problems firing up named 8.2.2p5 on
redhat linux 6.2.

The only way I can get it to work is to
run named daemon as root without running
as named user (-u named) and also removing RETVAL variable 
and using touch /var/run/named.pid
instead of /var/lock/subsys/named.

Named instance in /var/lock/subsys is missing, is
this important?

Can anyone suggest a better way of running it?
