One question about DNS

Hi
	I used to have Linux with Kernel 2.0.38, and I set up my DNS,
it worked well. Since I upgraded my linux box to 2.2.13,  I have a
problem with setting up DNS. I believe I set up all the files
correctly because I use  the command "nslookup" and the name server
answers the query correctly.  problem is when I ping the alias. it
says "unknow hosts". anyone have any idea why it happens.
