Free secundary NameServer

Why does it have to be free?  Doesn't the GraniteCanyon situation prove the
adage that you get what you pay for?

The secondary automatically copies the zone from the primary.

No.  No one else on the Internet can tell which is primary and which is
secondary.  They just get a list of nameservers and query whichever one
seems best.  The main criterion is the one with the best response time
history.  If your secondary server has a faster Internet connection than
you, they may get most of the queries.
