named Messages in /var/log/messages?

Named scanned its cache and found 34 records whose TTLs had expired, so it
removed them.  This is normal.

These are named's usage statistics.  There's a section of the DNS & BIND
book that explains how to interpret them.

This is logged by syslogd periodically just so you know it's working, and
has nothing to do with named.

You can control named's logging with the "logging" section of named.conf.
You can configure what level of logging syslogd maintains in
/etc/syslog.conf.
