Request for help on debug output

A request for help on bind 8 debug out put.

The problem I have is that one test server for a domain is able to
resolve a particular addess while several production servers for that
domain cannot. The production servers are authoritative for different
parts of the domain while the test server is a master for all of the
zones (within a particular area of the administrators responsibility).
Without having to go too much into detail I wonder if someone could
help with the interpretation of the following debug output.

The name to be resolved is:

hbmdte3.markets.uk.acme (name changed to protect the innocent!)

The same client is used to try to resolve this address using two
servers. Both servers that look up should use one of two other servers
that are in the domain hibm.acme but are authoritative for
markets.uk.acme.

On the server that doesn't work the debug is:

datagram from [10.1.77.38].2006, fd 164, len 41
req: nlookup(hbmdte3.markets.uk.acme) id 3 type=1 class=1
req: found 'hbmdte3.markets.uk.acme' as 'markets.uk.acme' (cname=0)

sysquery: send -> [128.20.230.7].53 dfd=348 nsid=17146 id=0

sysquery: send -> [128.20.230.7].53 dfd=348 nsid=17147 id=0
retry=961511345
forw: no nameservers found

I'm not sure is the above debug means the server didn't know of *any*
name servers or just servers for the domain markets.uk.acme . Knowing
this might help me.

On the server that does work the debug is:

datagram from [10.18.91.30].3760, fd 136, len 41
req: nlookup(hbmdte3.markets.uk.acme) id 2812 type=1 class=1

forw: forw -> [128.20.59.1].53 ds=516 nsid=45846 id=2812 13ms retry

datagram from [128.20.59.1].53, fd 516, len 57
send_msg -> [10.18.91.30].3760 (UDP 136) id=2812

Thanks in advance for any help.
