As no one has responded with binaries. I have binaries but I don't have
time to package them so you could install it.
So, Here is the quick and dirty how to compile on a fresh install of
Solaris 8 from my notes.
Note if you didn't do an "Entire Distribution" install of Solaris you will
need to install the C libraries from the Solaris Install CD.
Solaris 8 comes with a cd labeled "Solaris 8 Software companion".
log into CDE as root
Insert this CD in the drive and the install should automatically start. If
it does not, run /cdrom/cdrom0/install
An install window will pop up on the console. If you don't see it after
the CD has been in for a minute, go back and type the command above in a
shell window.
Click- Next;Next,Custom, Next
Select default install for the 3 "Development/*" packages "Languages,
Libraries, Tools"
Select no install for everything else.
Click Next, Install Now, Check the License box, Click Next.
It will install the software (Takes a few minutes)
Click Next; Exit
Download the Bind 8.2.2-P5 source in binary mode from ISC
http://www.isc.org
It us currently at:
ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind/src/8.2.2-P5/bind-src.tar.gz
At the shell, change to the directory where you saved the ISC source and
type the following commands:
# PATH=$PATH:/usr/ccs/bin:/opt/sfw/bin
# gunzip bind-src.tar.gz
# tar -xvf bind-src.tar
# cd src
# make
# make install
That should do it. From there read the docs. They are available at
ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind/src/8.2.2-P5/bind-doc.tar.gz
They need to be uncompressed and extracted the same way the source code
was.
If you run into problems from there, check the ISC website and/or post to
this list.
