in.named and $GENERATE directive

I have a Solaris 7 box with in.named (8.1.2 presumably). I needed to apply the
$GENERATE directive to create series of records. I added the following lines to my reverse zone file: 
$ORIGIN 0.0.192.IN-ADDR.ARPA.
$GENERATE 1-127 $ CNAME pop$.domain.net.
but nslookup says server failed. Does that version of in.named support $generate
and if, how?
