Bind resolves sometimes?

Hi. I'm running named 8.1.2 on FreeBSD 3.3 behind a NAT32 firewall.
About 80% of the time names correctly resolve to their addresses. But
about 20% of the time I get "host not found" errors. Then if I query a
nameserver just downstream from us, it resolves the host, and the local
host starts correctly resolving that query. Any idea how to debug or
correct this irratic behavior? If I "ndc restart" some of the problems
clear up, but only temporarily.
