Securing BIND-8.x links?

I took some time and dived into the "-t" (chroot) and "-u" options of
Bind-8.2.2p5 today. 

a) The stuff is badly documented (in fact, not at all -- all there is is on
   the man-page, nothing in doc/, noting in contrib/)
   Odd.   

b) Are there some hints/links about the use of ulimit when starting named?
   Any useful estimates on which limits might be useful?
   How does named react upon hitting a hard/soft limit?
