AXFR transfer hangs

The AXFR hanging problem is becoming serious, because named-xfer is
hanging as well, and I'm not able to load secondary zones for my buddy.
His named-xfer is hanging trying to load my secondaries too.

We're both running the RedHat 6.1 distribution, and the 8.2.2-P5 version
of bind.

On the other hand, zone transfers to granitecanyon have always gone
fine.  Something's sticking in the code dig and named-xfer use to do
axfr.
