Yes, we created brodcast.net, put an A record for www to 127.0.0.1
Once the app received an answer to it's query, the volume of queries
decreased dramtically.  However, even with every machine with that broken
app on it doing 2 queries per second or so (before we created the zone) we
never had a problem with it crashing the name server.
