sorry but what can I do to read and compare it?  When I do "more /bin/sh"  i get
garbage with bipping sounds.  I never done scripting before.....

Quite possible.  What does 'file /bin/sh' say?  Can you compare it to a
/bin/sh from another system or your distribution CD ROM?

Yes.  But that should not cause this problem.
