You want to lookup information about a domain that hasn't been
registered yet? I'm not sure what you mean here.

You could use Dynamic Update to modify data in DNS zones (except for
actually creating or deleting zones) directly, bypassing the
zonefile-editing step. There is a Perl module to do Dynamic Update, but
last time I looked it was disclaimed as being not suitable for
production (although that was an old version I was looking at; for all
I know, maybe folks have been using it for years without any problems).
