That's because the guy who set up the microsoft.com domain created A
records for it. Their file contains something like:
microsoft.com. IN A 207.46.131.30
IN A 207.46.130.14
IN A 207.46.130.149
IN A 207.46.130.45
IN A 207.46.131.137

Because you didn't create any A records like that. You can only look up
records that you put in the zone file.
